This is my homage to Pieter Bruegel’s 1556 masterpiece ‘Big Fish Eat the Little Fish’, one of his better known depictions of Dutch proverbs. Yes we all know ain’t nothing free in life and one day you will surely pay for all those “freebies”. Life is a food chain no matter how you slice it. So I gave this platitude my own Southeast Alaskan twist with a Ling Cod, a Yellow Eyed Rockfish, a Decorated Warbonnet and a Sockeye Salmon all in a line… about to be inhaled by a Great White Shark. Humans are a big, big part of the food chain these days so I included a nerdy looking fellow snarfing a sardine and peanut butter sandwich. I’ve always liked the border on this one and was delighted to see it tattooed around the wrist of an avid Troll fan one day.
