I drew this image way back in 1989 of a great blue heron balanced on a bull kelp bulb as a school of pacific salmon glide by on their way to their natal streams. A common loon and a hooded merganser cruise along the surface as a dipper bobs its way along the shore while two coastal brown bears begin to chow down on one unlucky salmon. Grace Freeman updated the digital color to stunning effect in 2018.
