HUMPIES FROM HELL PIN

This one has become a bit of a classic, being one of the first designs I did after moving to Alaska in 1983. I was inspired by the amazing transformation that pink salmon go through ( AKA Humpies ) as they enter freshwater streams to spawn. Beautiful silvery fish become humpbacked monsters with big gnarly teeth and only one thing on their minds: sex! And if you’ve ever been on the deck of a seine boat or had the privilege to work on a “slime line” you know that these smallest and most common of the Pacific Salmon descend upon Alaska and British Columbia in the millions. They can truly seem like demons from that hot place of eternal punishment.
