This psychedelic 60’s style pattern depicts life before the dinosaurs. The cut off time period for Ray’s subject matter was the end of the Permian Period, when life suffered its biggest extinction ever, with over 90 percent of life disappearing from the fossil record. Our planet’s life suffered huge catastrophic losses during what’s called ‘the great dying’. It was a global reset on every level.

Many of the creatures and plants from the Paleozoic period look alien to us, unlike anything alive today. But if you look closely, you’ll spot a few familiar looking plants and animals. Life found a way. There are dragonflies, cockroaches, millipedes, ferns, seaweed, horsetails, sea stars, jellies, and the humble ratfish among others. All of them are truly ancient survivors, called ‘living fossils’, having survived relatively unchanged through vast periods of time.

And because Ray’s always looking forward to his next meal, he’s hidden two cheeseburgers in the pattern.
