Pacific salmon undertake an incredible and arduous journey throughout their lives. Born orphans they begin as eggs laid in gravel nests in the clear, freshwater streams of Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. 

After hatching, they develop into fry and then parr, often staying in freshwater for months. Eventually, they transform into smolts, capable of living in saltwater, and migrate out to the ocean to feed and mature. After several years at sea, they remarkably are able to return to their original home water streams to spawn, reproduce, and die.

This pattern includes all 5 of the best known salmon species including: King, Coho, Sockeye, Chum and Pink . in the same order they’re also called Chinook, Silver, Red, Dog and Humpy.
