DEVIL’S CLUB ART POSTER
Devil’s Club (Oplopanax horridus ) is a large, thorny plant found in the rainforests of the Pacific Northwest that has been used for centuries as a traditional medicine by the Tlingit and Haida people. I’ve long been intrigued by the name and thought it might be interesting to see if I could make the “devil” appear in the details. I was also inspired by the ancient European legends of the “Greenman”, a mythical symbol of rebirth represented as a face made of leaves. It’s also the name of one of my favorite songs by the band XTC. My pal Memo Jauregui did the digital coloring.
